64Shooting FeaturesUsing Face DetectionIn the following shooting modes, the camerauses face detection to automatically focus onhuman faces.• x (scene auto selector) mode (A34)• S (night portrait) mode (A35)• Portrait scene mode (A33)• Smart portrait mode (A40)• When AF area mode (A57) in A (auto)mode (A31) is set to Face priority.If the camera detects more than one face, a double border is displayed aroundthe face that the camera focuses on, and single borders are displayed aroundthe other faces.If the shutter-release button is pressed halfway when no faces are detected:• In x (scene auto selector) mode, the focus area changes depending on thescene.• In S (night portrait) mode, Portrait scene mode or smart portrait mode,the camera focuses on the area in the center of the frame.• In A (auto) mode, the camera selects the focus area containing the subjectclosest to the camera.B Notes About Face Detection• The camera’s ability to detect faces depends on a variety of factors, including thedirection in which the faces are looking.• The camera may be unable to detect faces in the following situations:- When faces are partially hidden by sunglasses or otherwise obstructed- When faces take up too much or too little of the frameC Face Detection During Movie RecordingWhen AF area mode (A75) in the movie menu is set to Face priority, the camerafocuses on human faces during movie recording.If the b (e movie-record) button is pressed when no faces are detected, thecamera focuses on the area in the center of the frame.25 m 0s25 m 0s880880
