63The Shooting MenuBest Shot Selector (BSS)The options in the “best-shot selector” (BSS) menu are recommended for situ-ations in which inadvertent camera movement can produce blurred pictures,or when parts of the image are prone to under- or over-exposure.Option DescriptionOff BSS off.OnCamera takes shots while shutter-release buttonis pressed, to a maximum of ten. These imagesare then compared and sharpest picture (pic-ture with highest level of detail) is saved. Flashturns off automatically and focus, exposure, andwhite balance for all photos are determined by first picture in each se-ries. Recommended for situations in which inadvertent camera move-ment can produce blurred pictures, for example when:• the camera is zoomed in • macro close-up is in effect• lighting is poor and the flash can not be usedMay not produce desired results if subject moves or composition ischanged while shutter-release button is fully pressed.ExposureBSSSelecting this option displays sub-menu shown atright. Choose from:• Highlight BSS: picture with smallest area ofoverexposure is selected.• Shadow BSS: picture with smallest area of un-derexposure is selected.• Histogram BSS: of pictures with least under- and over-exposure,camera chooses picture with overall exposure closest to optimum.Camera takes five shots each time shutter-release button is pressed,but only picture that best meets selected criterion is saved.
