39Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) ModeTaking Pictures with the Self-TimerThe self-timer is suitable for taking group pictures and reducing the vibration whenthe shutter-release button is pressed.When using the self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Set Vibrationreduction (A193) in the setup menu (A185) to Off when using a tripod tostabilize the camera.1 Press n (self-timer) on the multi selector.• The self-timer menu is displayed.2 Press the multi selector H or I to choose 10sor 2s and press the k button.• 10s (ten seconds): suitable for group pictures• 2s (two seconds): suitable for preventing camera shake• The mode selected for the self-timer is displayed.• If the k button is not pressed within a few seconds, theselection will be canceled.3 Frame the picture and press theshutter-release button halfway.• The focus and exposure are set.4 Press the shutter-release button therest of the way down.• The self-timer starts, and the number ofseconds remaining before the shutter isreleased is displayed.
