In P andA modes, shutter speed will auto mati cal ly be set to valuesbetween 1/60 and 1/500 s.Red-eye reduction lamp lights for approximately 1 s beforemain flash, causing pupils in subject’s eyes to contract andreducing “red-eye” effect sometimes caused by fl ash. Ow-ing to 1 s shutter-release delay, red-eye reduction is notrecommended with moving subjects or in other situationsin which quick shutter response is required. Do not movecamera while red-eye reduction lamp is lit.In S and M modes, fl ash fi res just before shutter closes, creat-ing effect of stream of light following moving subjects. In Pand A modes, slow-rear curtain sync is used to capture bothsubject and background. Use of tripod is recommended toprevent blurring caused by camera shake.Rear-curtain syncSlow rear-curtain syncCombines red-eye reduction with slow sync. Available onlyin P and A modes. Use of tripod is recommended to preventblur ring caused by camera shake.Slow sync with red-eye reductionFlash is combined with shutter speeds as slow as 30 s tocap ture both subject and background at night or under dimlight. Available only in P and A modes. Use of tripod is rec-ommended to prevent blurring caused by camera shake.Slow syncRed-eye reductionFront-curtain syncFlash AngleThe flash angle of the built-in Speedlight can cover the fi eld of view of an 18 mm lens.It may not be able to light the entire subject with some lenses or apertures ( 101).ISO AutoWhen On is selected for Custom Setting 5 (ISO auto; 142), sensitivity will automati-cally be adjusted as required for optimal flash output. This may result in foregroundsubjects being underexposed in flash photographs taken at slow shutter speeds, indaylight, or against a bright background. In these cases, choose a flash mode otherthan slow sync or select mode A or M and choose a larger aperture.
