17MaintenanceReplacing the SealThe seal is what keeps the FJ-CP1 watertight. Make sure that the seal is freeof foreign matter before each use, and check the case for leaks before us-ing the camera under water. A leak may indicate that the seal is damaged,stretched, or has lost elasticity and should be replaced as described below.Replacing the SealThe seal requires periodic replacement. Replace the seal immediately if it is dam-aged, cracked, warped, or has lost its elasticity. The seal should be replaced at leastonce a year. Do not use O-ring lubricant (grease).Remove the sealInsert your fi nger into the notch and remove theseal as shown.Do Not Use Force or Sharp ObjectsThe case may leak if the seal is forcibly stretchedor damaged through the use of edged or pointedobjects, including fingernails and metal tools.Inspect the seal guideUse a blower or cotton swab to remove any for-eign objects from all parts of the case that comeinto contact with the seal. Be sure to remove anythreads left behind by the swab.Inspect the sealRemove any foreign matter with tissue paper ora soft, dry cloth, taking care not to leave tissueor threads on the seal.
