Failure to check for leaks before use could result in irreparabledamage to the camera. Note that leaks may result if the case is cracked or damaged. Checkthe case for cracking and other damage before use, and consult with a Nikon-authorizedservice representative in the event that any cracking or damage is found.1 Latch and immerse the case.Latch the case and then slowly immerse it inwater, stopping if air is expelled from insidethe case. Keep the case immersed for 2 or 3seconds and check for bubbles escaping. Testthe case in a shallow area at a depth of about1 m (3 ft) or in a tub or bucket. Do not usehot water, as this could exceed the operatingtemperature range of 0–40 °C (32–104 °F).2 Test the controls.Immerse the case and operate the controlsunderwater for 2 to 3 minutes, checkingwhether bubbles escape.3 Check for water inside the case.Take the case out of the water and dry it thor-oughly with a soft, dry cloth, then open thecase and check for water. If water has enteredthe case, check the O-ring (015, 22–23). If thecause of the leak can not be determined, takethe case to a Nikon-authorized service repre-sentative.
