ConnectivityYour device offers several options to connect to the internetor to another compatible device or PC.Data connections and access pointsYour device supports packet data connections (networkservice), such as GPRS in the GSM network. When you use yourdevice in GSM and UMTS networks, multiple data connectionscan be active at the same time, and access points can sharea data connection. In the UMTS network, data connectionsremain active during voice calls.You can also use a WLAN data connection. Only oneconnection in one wireless LAN can be active at a time, butseveral applications can use the same internet access point.To establish a data connection, an access point is required.You can define different kinds of access points, such as thefollowing:● MMS access point to send and receive multimediamessages● Internet access point (IAP) to send and receive e-mail andconnect to the internetCheck the type of access point you need with your serviceprovider for the service you want to access. For availabilityand subscription to packet data connection services, contactyour service provider.Network settingsSelect Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Network.Your device can automatically switch between GSM and UMTSnetworks. GSM networks are indicated with . UMTSnetworks are indicated with .Select from the following:● Network mode — Select which network to use. If youselect Dual mode, the device uses the GSM or UMTSnetwork automatically, according to the networkparameters and the roaming agreements between thewireless service providers. For details and roaming costs,contact your network service provider. This option isshown only if supported by the wireless service provider.A roaming agreement is an agreement between two ormore service providers to enable the users of one serviceprovider to use the services of other service providers.● Operator selection — Select Automatic to set the deviceto search for and select one of the available networks, orManual to manually select the network from a list. If theconnection to the manually selected network is lost, thedevice sounds an error tone and asks you to reselect anetwork.
