Data and fax communicationYou can transfer data to other compatibledevices when your Nokia 6310i mobile phoneis connected to a compatible PC via an IRconnection, cable or Bluetooth.To send and receive e-mail and faxes, and toconnect to computers and access theInternet, you also need the appropriate dataand fax communications software installedon your computer. You can use the Nokia6310i mobile phone with a variety ofcommercially available data and faxcommunications applications.To use your phone as a modem, you first needto install it as a modem.■ Communication applicationsand modem driversOn the Nokia website, www.nokia.com/phones/6310i, you can find the requiredsystem files for data communication and alsothe instructions for installation. You can alsofind documents that advise you on how to setup devices and applications for use with theNokia 6310i mobile phone.PC SuitePC Suite contains applications which help you• to conveniently manage various phonefunctions from your PC• to synchronise contacts and calendaritems between your phone and your PCPersonal Information Manager.• to draw and edit caller group graphics andpicture messages.• to create new ringing tones for yourphone.• to select the connection type used whenconnecting your PC and your phone.• to back up and restore personalinformation from phone to PC or toanother phone.• to install Java applications from PC to yourphone.Modem setupModem setup installs the followingcomponents on your PC:• Nokia 6310i data and fax modem adapterswhich enable you to use your phone as amodem in data and fax calls.• Nokia Modem Options software to setoptions for the data calls you make. When sending andreceiving e-mail, the 14.4 kbps datatransmission speed can be doubled up to 28.8kbps. In Internet connections, a downloadspeed of up to 43.2 kbps can be achieved ifsupported by the equipment of the networkoperator and the Internet service provider.Note that sending data in HSCSD mode drainsthe phone’s battery faster than normal voiceor data calls as the phone is sending datafaster. For continuous usage, connect thephone to a charger.
