Nokia 6651 User Guide 94 Copyright © 2004 NokiaSecurity features for browser connectionsSecurity features may be required for some services, such as bankingservices. For such connections you need security certificates. For moreinformation, contact your service provider.Important: Note that even if the use of certificates makes the risksinvolved in remote connections and software installationconsiderably smaller, they must be used correctly in order tobenefit from increased security. The existence of a certificate doesnot offer any protection by itself; the certificate manager mustcontain correct, authentic, or trusted certificates for increasedsecurity to be available. Certificates have a restricted lifetime. IfExpired certificate or Certificate not valid yet is shown even ifthe certificate should be valid, check that the current date andtime in your device are correct. Before changing any certificate settings, you must make sure thatyou really trust the owner of the certificate and that thecertificate really belongs to the listed owner.CERTIFICATESThere are two kinds of certificates: server certificates and authoritycertificates.• Server certificatesThe phone uses a server certificate to create a connection withimproved security to the service provider. The phone receives theserver certificate from the service provider before the connection isestablished and its validity is checked using the authority certificatessaved in the phone. Server certificates are not saved. The phoneindicates if the identity of the Internet server cannot be verified, if theInternet server certificate is not authentic or if you do not have thecorrect authority certificate in your phone. The security indicator is displayed during a connection, if the datatransmission between the phone and the Internet server is encrypted. The security icon does not indicate that the data transmissionbetween the gateway and the content server (or place where therequested resource is stored) is secure. The service provider securesthe data transmission between the gateway and the content server.
