You can send and receive instantmessages with friends and family through different instant messaging services. You can useeither ICQ (I Seek You) or America Online Instant Messaging (AIM).Note: This feature can be used only if it is supported by your network operator orservice provider. Only phones that offer compatible instant messaging features canreceive and display instant messages.Your IM contact list shows you when the contacts on the list are online and available toparticipate in an instant messaging conversation. When write and send your message, itstays on the display. The reply message appears above your original message. You can startan IM session and still the other functions of the phone while it is running in thebackground.Before you can use instant messaging on you phone, you must first subscribe to yourwireless service provider’s text messaging service and then register with the IM service youwant to use.If instant messaging is not available from your wireless service provider, the IMscreen many not appear. Contact your service provider for more information.To set up the IM service, see “Chat and my presence settings” on page 60.Instant messaging uses shared memory. For more information, see “Shared memory” onpage 7.To begin using IM, you must obtain a user name and password. You can do this byregistering over the Internet with the IM service provider you have selected. Information onthe ICQ or AIM Web sites guides you through the registration process.The Chat menuTo access the Chat menu, select Menu > Messages > Chat. You can then select one of thefollowing options:Login—to connect you to the instant messaging service.To set the phone to automatically connect to the instant messaging service when you enterthe Chat menu, see “Connect to and disconnect from IM service” on page 41.
