7190 User Guide v0.04 3/15/99 [ 93 ]Reference information20.Reference information• Using batteries & chargersFor charging and recharging your phone battery, see “Charge the battery”on page 7.Use only batteries approved by the phone manufacturer and rechargeyour battery only with the chargers approved by the manufacturer.A new battery's full performance is achieved only after two or threecomplete charge and discharge cycles!The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it willeventually wear out. When the operating time (talk-time and stand-bytime) is noticeably shorter than normal, it is time to buy a new battery.When a charger is not in use, disconnect it from the power source. Do notleave the battery connected to a charger for longer than a week, sinceovercharging may shorten its life. If left unused a fully charged batterywill discharge itself over time.For good operation times, discharge the NiMH battery from time to timeby leaving your phone switched on until it turns itself off (or by using thebattery discharge facility of any approved accessory available for yourphone). Do not attempt to discharge the battery by any other means.Temperature extremes will affect the ability of your battery to charge:allow it to cool down or warm up first.When the battery is running out of power and only few minutes of talktime remain, a warning tone is heard and Battery low is brieflydisplayed. When no more talk time is left, Battery empty is displayedand a warning tone is sounded and the phone switches itself off.Use the battery only for its intended purpose.
