IntroductionThe Nokia 8210 (GSM) comes equipped thelatest codec and audio technology for su-perior sound and voice quality.Currently, there are three different codecsdefined for GSM/PCN:• full-rate (FR)• enhanced full-rate (EFR)• half-rate (HR)The Nokia 8210 phone can support allthese codecs.The FR codec is supported by all GSM andPCN cellular networks and phones.The network automatically selects whichcodec is used, FR or EFR (if supported bythe network).The Nokia phone supplied within this salespackage has the EFR codec activated to sothat you can automatically enjoy the ben-efits of EFR if supported by your networkoperator. Currently only some networkssupport the EFR codec in addition to theFR codec.2. Deactivating/Activating The EFRCodecThe Nokia N8210 fully meet and complywith all EFR codec and relevant compati-bility specifications.However, as a result of some networks notyet complying with the latest specifica-tions you may find it impossible to make orreceive calls, if the EFR codec is activated,e.g. when you are visiting or roaming in aforeign network.If problems are encountered in making acall (with the display of "Check operatorservices" or another similar message), ORreceiving calls, deactivating the EFR codecmay resolve the problem.
