You can use it for detecting your current positionand for turn-by-turn navigation (extra service). The GPSreceiver takes its power from the battery. Using the GPSreceiver may drain the battery faster.Setting up network connectionsWhen you use Nokia Maps for the first time, you may needto define an internet access point for downloading mapinformation for your current location.Getting started with the mapWhen you open Nokia Maps, you see an overview of theglobe. To find your GPS position, press 0 or select Options >Find place > GPS position. When the device asks forconfirmation to search for GPS signal, answer OK.This starts searching for a satellite signal, and Nokia Mapsstarts to locate your device, and zooms in to your currentlocation. At the same time, Nokia Maps downloads themap of your current location. The maps are automaticallysaved in the device memory or on a compatible memorycard (if inserted).You can browse the map, show information about thedifferent locations shown on it and, for example, choosethem for route planning and turn-by-turn navigation(extra service).
