With wireless LAN, you can connect your device tothe internet and compatible devices that have wirelessLAN. For information about using your device with othercompatible UPnP devices through wireless LAN, see ‘Homenetwork with Gallery’, p. 51 and ‘Home network withmusic player’, p. 21.To use wireless LAN, a wireless LAN must be available inthe location and your device must be connected to thewireless LAN.Some places, like France, have restrictions on the use ofwireless LAN. Check with your local authorities for moreinformation.Features using wireless LAN, or allowing such features torun in the background while using other features, increasethe demand on battery power and reduce the battery life.Your device supports the following wireless LAN features:• IEEE 802.11b/g standard• Operation at a frequency of 2.4 GHz• Wired equivalent privacy (WEP) with keys up to128 bits, Wi-Fi protected access (WPA), and 802.1xencryption methods. These functions can be used onlyif they are supported by the network.Wireless LAN connectionsTo use wireless LAN, you must create an internet accesspoint (IAP) in a wireless LAN. Use the access point forapplications that need to connect to the internet. See‘Wireless LAN access points’, p. 71.Important: Always enable one of the availableencryption methods to increase the security of yourwireless LAN connection. Using encryption reduces the riskof unauthorized access to your data.A wireless LAN connection is established when you createa data connection using a wireless LAN internet accesspoint. The active wireless LAN connection ends when youclose the last application using the connection. To end allthe connections simultaneously, see ‘Connectionmanager’, p. 75.You can use wireless LAN during a voice call or whenpacket data is active. You can only be connected to onewireless LAN access point device at a time, but severalapplications can use the same internet access point.
