ConnectionsYour device offers several options to connect to theinternet or to another compatible device or PC.Wireless LANYour device supports wireless local area network(WLAN). With WLAN, you can connect your device tothe internet and compatible devices that have WLAN.About WLANTo use WLAN, it must be available in the location, andyour device must be connected to the WLAN.Some places, like France, have restrictions on the useof wireless LAN. Check with your local authorities formore information.Features that use WLAN, or that are allowed to run inthe background while using other features, increasethe demand on battery power and reduce the batterylife.Your device supports the following WLAN features:● IEEE 802.11b/g standard● Operation at 2.4 GHz● Wired equivalent privacy (WEP) with keys up to 128bits, Wi-Fi protected access (WPA), and 802.1xencryption methods. These functions can be usedonly if they are supported by the network.WLAN connectionsTo use WLAN, you must create an internet access point(IAP) for WLAN. Use the access point for applicationsthat need to connect to the internet. See "WLANinternet access points", p. 37.Important: Always enable one of the availableencryption methods to increase the security of yourwireless LAN connection. Using encryption reduces therisk of unauthorized access to your data.A WLAN connection is established when you create adata connection using a WLAN internet access point. The active WLAN connection ends when you end thedata connection.© 2008 Nokia.
