WLAN 2300 Series Outdoor Solution with AP Mounted in NEMA Enclosure 59Nortel WLAN 2300 Series Outdoor Solution Guide• Overall system efficiency by effectively directing available energy to where it's needed.• System utility for any installation. The WLAN 2300 series outdoor external antennas are the only external antennas certified by Nortel for usewith WLAN 2300 Series systems. WLAN Access Points AP 2330A and AP 2330B that are outfitted withnon-certified outdoor external antennas are not supported under Nortel support agreements. The WLAN 2300 Series system must be upgraded to WSS Software 5.0.11.4 or later and WMS 5.0.11.3 orlater. This upgrade includes antenna pattern libraries for the WLAN 2300 series outdoor external antennaportfolio and allows the system to:• Compensate for extension cable loss and lightning protection circuitry that is essential for operation in anoutdoor environment.• Correctly interpret received signal strength measurements from APs with external antennas when calculatingrogue device or client location. The WLAN 2300 Series System outdoor external antenna portfolio is sourced from Cushcraft, a world leaderin the development of advanced antenna technology and products.• The Cushcraft products have been modified for compatibility with the AP 2330A and AP 2330B AccessPoints.• Nortel versions are equipped with an R-SMA type connector to comply with Nortel's quality and regulatorystandards and correctly interface with the AP 2330A and AP 2330B Access Points.• The Cushcraft model numbers presented throughout this bulletin refer to the Nortel specific versions andmay not exactly match similar versions promoted on Cushcraft's website or other product materials.• Nortel has tested and measured each product. The antenna gains expressed in dBi measurements are theNortel tested values and may differ slightly from those published by Cushcraft for similar products.Note. Only use Nortel approved antennas with the AP 2330A or AP 2330B access points.Safety PrecautionsIn this section Powerline and Installation safety precautions are provided.Powerline• Coming in contact with power lines can be lethal.• Ensure that there are no accessible power lines near the installation site to avoid accidental or incidentalhuman contact with these lines.• Ensure that antennas, masts, towers, guy wires or cables cannot come into contact with these powerlines. Tryto plan for potential leaning or falling of this equipment into these lines.• You may get injured or killed if you are touching or holding any part of equipment when it contacts electricpower lines.• Ensure there is NO possibility that equipment or personnel can come in contact directly or indirectly withpower lines.
