4-19Chapter 4 Troubleshooting ProceduresNortel Networks 5399 Access Switch Hardware Installation GuideTo preserve the configuration parameters of the Remote AccessConcentrator module you are replacing, follow the procedures in“Preparing for a Hot Swap” on page 4-19 (below) and “Completing theHot Swap” on page 4-22.Verify that the backplane segment bank selector is set for thecorrect segment bank before installing a replacement module. For more information on jumper and switch settings, seeChapter 2.Preparing for a Hot SwapThe Remote Access Concentrator can be inserted into or removed froma chassis without interrupting service to other modules within the System5000 hub. This ability is referred to as “hot swapping.”The Remote Access Concentrator holds 64KB of configurationinformation in EEPROM. This information is periodically sent to the hostserver to be saved in a file. During a hot swap, the new Remote AccessConcentrator reads in this file at boot time and overwrites its EEPROMwith the configuration information from the Remote Access Concentratorit is replacing. The new Remote Access Concentrator then functions asthe previous Remote Access Concentrator, except for the LAT key, whichneeds to be reprogrammed. If no EEPROM overwrite is desired when hot swapping, selectdefault values for that slot from the supervisory module on theservice port terminal.
