24 AC power supply fundamentalsIf a chassis has the minimum power supply configuration (nonredundantconfiguration) and one power supply fails, the system loses power andnetwork connectivity. A trap and syslog message indicates that theconfiguration is nonredundant.Nortel recommends that you operate the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600system in a redundant configuration at all times to ensure a maximumnetwork up time.Figure 1 "8005 AC redundant power supply configuration — 1" (page24) shows a redundant power supply configuration using three 8005 ACpower supplies. This configuration provides redundancy for power supplyfailure.Figure 18005 AC redundant power supply configuration — 1Release 5.0 introduces the dual-input 8005DI AC power supply. You can operate the 8005 AC and 8005DI AC power supplies separately,in parallel, or parallel redundant configurations. The 8005DI AC powersupply can receive AC input power from two different AC power sources. This allows the Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 to maintain full operation ifyou operate the 8005DI AC power supply from an A or B AC input feedalone.ATTENTIONNortel recommends that you install each power supply on its own dedicatedbranch circuit for electrical installation reasons.Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600Installation — AC Power SupplyNN46205-306 02.01 Standard30 May 2008Copyright © 2008 Nortel Networks.
