You can then manage theNortel VPN Router from a Web browser.MultinettingIP multinetting allows a maximum of eight addresses to be configured on a singleEthernet interface. The first IP address configured on the interface is the primaryaddress. Subsequent IP addresses are secondary addresses, or subnets. All thesubnets on a physical interface share the security rules configured for the primarysubnet. You can configure only one set of Interface Filter rules per physicalinterface.Multinetting is commonly used in IP networks as part of a transition strategy. Asnetworks evolve, consolidation of several physical networks is often necessary. Toavoid re-addressing, the physical networks are consolidated onto a multinettedNortel VPN Router interface. Multinetting allows hosts to migrate to the new IPinterface or maintain the previous IP address. You can add Multinet IP addressesto the private side or the public side of the VPN Router .Statistics and logging are done at the interface level and in most cases are notavailable separately for each secondary address on the interface.Overall throughput using multinetting, instead of a non-multinetting application, has no significant degradation. There is also no degradation of forwardingperformance.Note: It is very important that broadcast packets originated by the routernot use the local subnet broadcast. Whenever multiple RoutingInformation Protocol (RIP) interfaces are created on the same physicalinterface of a router, all of those interfaces MUST be configured with anexplicit broadcast address of 255.255.255.255 in order to avoid routingloops.
