For example, a one-for-fourconfiguration requires four sparing panels installed on the same face of amounting apparatus, and connected in series through inter-panel flexi-cables. This modular design of MSA32 and MSA8 sparing panels meansany one of the sparing panels in a series can be replaced withoutdisrupting traffic on the FPs attached to the other panels in the sparingconfiguration.• When using two or more MSA32 or MSA8 sparing panels with RJ-45connectors (NTJS95) in a one-for-n sparing configuration, space isrequired between the panels to accommodate inter-panel flexi-cables.• An MSA32 and MSA8 inter-panel connection cable is a flexi-cable, aribbon cable that is equivalent to a flexible printed circuit board. Its productcode is NTJS99. The flexi-cables for MSA32 and MSA8 RJ-45 sparingpanels are different than other MSA32 and MSA8 panels by having a thirdD-sub connector. See the figure Inter-panel flexi-cable for MSA32 andMSA8 sparing panels with RJ-45 connectors (page 294). Also refer to thefigures Cable connections of MSA32 sparing panels with RJ-45connectors (page 295), Cable connections of MSA8 sparing panels withRJ-45 connectors (page 296), and Bottom flexi-cable connections ofMSA32 and MSA8 sparing panels with RJ-45 connectors (page 297).• Since the flexi-cables are connected to the bottom of each sparing paneldown to the Main A (bottom) one, you must install the inter-panel flexi-cables immediately after each panel is installed and before the next one inthe series is installed.• Power is supplied to an MSA32 or MSA8 sparing panel from its FPs. The2-slot version of a DS1 or E1 MSA FP provides the power through theconnections labelled P3, and only through this connection. For the sparingpanel to operate with a 2-slot FP, the connectors at P3 must be cabled atboth ends even if the port will not be configured in software. The 1-slotversion of the DS1 or E1 MSA32 FP provides the power through theconnections labelled P0. For the sparing panel to operate with a 1-slot FP,the connectors at P0 must be cabled at both ends even if the port will notbe configured in software.• On the MSA8 FP, power to the sparing panel is provided from P1 into theP3 sparing panel connection using an MSA8 single connector cable. Forthe sparing panel to operate, the connector at P3 must be cabled at bothends even if the port will not be configured in software.
