Peripheral Modules 37Single-Shelf Link Peripheral Processor (SSLPP)The Single-Shelf Link Peripheral Processor (SSLPP) was developed inresponse to customer demand for a lower priced/lower capacity version ofthe Link Peripheral Processor (LPP). It offers an economical LPP solution forthe smaller-sized private network. Figure 13 "Single-Shelf Link PeripheralProcessor" (page 37) shows an SSLPP.Figure 13Single-Shelf Link Peripheral ProcessorPeripheral ModulesPeripheral Modules (PMs) are microprocessor-controlled units that connectto the network modules. Each Peripheral Module has a PeripheralProcessor (PP) function that performs local processing and controls the flowof messages between itself and the Computing Module. This independentaction by the Peripheral Processor relieves the Computing Module of routinelocal processing, which enables the Computing Module to concentrate onhigher-level activities.Peripheral Modules are responsible for the following functions:• scanning the lines in the modules for changes of circuit state• performing timing functions for call processing• collecting and storing digitsCommunication Server 2100Meridian SL-100 Product Guide555-4001-103 20.01 StandardSE09 20 October 2006Copyright © 2006, Nortel Networks Nortel Networks Confidential.
