62 Meridian SL-100 peripheralsminimum concentration for a fully-provisioned Line Concentrating Module(approximately 35:1) involves concentrating 640 line terminations onto themaximum six 2 Mbps links between the Line Group Controller and the LineConcentrating Module. This would be suitable for business lines.Line Concentrating Modules support intraswitching (that is, the speech pathbetween the two lines supported by the same Line Concentrating Module isthrough-connected at the Line Concentrating Module, not through the ENETswitching matrix). Note, however, that call processing is still performed bythe Core, so the Line Concentrating Module still needs to communicate withthe Core through ENET and the Line Group Controller for call establishmentand clearing.Line Concentrating Modules contain a Ringing Generator card used toprovide ringing to the subscriber lines. This is duplicated for reliability. Anenhanced Ringing Generator card is available that has dipswitches that canbe used to control the ringing cadence generated by the card.Line Trunk ControllerThe Line Trunk Controller is a peripheral module that is a combination ofthe Line Group Controller and the Digital Trunk Controller and provides allthe services offered by both. It supports the Line Concentrating Moduleand AB trunks. The Line Trunk Controller-ISDN (LTC-I) is a peripheral module that is acombination of the Line Group Controller and the Digital Trunk Controllerand, like the LTC, provides all the services offered by both. The LTC-I iswired to support up to eight Line Concentrating Modules or Digital LineModules (DLM) requiring up to 20 DS-30A trunk ports and 16 DS-30 lineports.Intelligent Peripheral Equipment (IPE)The Intelligent Peripheral Equipment (IPE) Module on the Meridian SL-100provides the capability for customers to use M3900 Series Telephones,Meridian Digital Telephones and lineside features and services. Since theIPE is common to both the Meridian 1 and Meridian SL-100 systems, userswho move from Meridian 1 systems to the Meridian SL-100 are alreadyfamiliar with telephone equipment and many of its features and services. In addition, customers who upgrade from Meridian 1 systems to MeridianSL-100 systems can capitalize on their initial investment in both terminalsand peripheral equipment.Figure 26 "IPE shelf" (page 63) shows an IPE shelf.Communication Server 2100Meridian SL-100 Product Guide555-4001-103 20.01 StandardSE09 20 October 2006Copyright © 2006, Nortel Networks Nortel Networks Confidential.
