B4400/4500/4600 User’s Guide91image drum when the print becomes faint or begins todeteriorate.Replacing the image drumIt is recommended that you change the toner cartridge andclean the LED array at the same time as you change the imagedrum.CAUTION! The green image drum surface at the base of thecartridge is very delicate and light sensitive. Do not touch it anddo not expose it to normal room light for more than 5 minutes.If the drum unit needs to be out of the printer for longer thanthis, please wrap the cartridge inside a black plastic bag to keepit away from light. Never expose the drum to direct sunlight orvery bright room lighting. Always hold the image drum unit bythe ends or from the top.1. Press the cover release and open the printer’s top coverfully.WARNING! If the printer has been powered on, the fuser maybe hot. This area is clearly labeled. Do not touch.2. Remove the used image drum and toner cartridge.3. Follow the installation instructions on or inside the boxcontaining the new image drum to install the new imagedrum.4. Gently wipe the LED array surface with the LED lenscleaner that came with the new toner cartridge, or wipewith a soft tissue.5. Close the top cover and press it down to latch it closed.Generating a cleaning pageIf the printed page shows signs of fading, streaking or erraticmarks, the problem may be cleared by generating a drumcleaning page as follows.B4400Using the printer Status Monitor6.
