As with all electricalequipment, there are a few basic precautions you shouldtake to avoid hurting yourself or damaging the product.ï Carefully read the provided setup and operatinginstructions.ï Save all provided documentation for future reference.ï Read and follow all warning and instruction labels on theproduct itself.ï Unplug the product before you clean it. Use only a dampcloth; do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.ï Place your product on a firm, solid surface. If you put it onsomething unsteady, it may fall and be damaged. If youplace it on a soft surface, such as a rug, sofa, or cushion,the vents may be blocked, causing the product tooverheat.ï Protect your product from overheating. Make sure noobstructions block the openings of the product. Do not putthe product on or near a heat source (such as a radiator orheat register). Keep the product out of direct sunlight.ï Always use this product in a well ventilated area. Allowenough room around the product for adequate ventilationand easy access to the paper trays. If you put the productin any kind of enclosure, make sure the enclosure is wellventilated.ï Do not use your product near water. Do not spill liquid ofany kind into it.ï Be certain that your power source matches the ratinglisted on the back of the product. If you are not sure,check with your dealer or with your local power company.ï Do not connect this product to an uninterruptible powersupply (UPS). For further information please contact OkiData at 1-800-OKI-DATA.ï Your product has a grounded, three-prong plug as a safetyfeature. This plug only fits into a grounded outlet. If theplug does not fit, the outlet may be an older,non-grounded type. Contact an electrician to have theoutlet replaced. Do not use an adapter to defeat thegrounding.ï Install the product near an easily accessed power outlet.ï Avoid damaging the power cord. Do not put anything on itor place it where it will be walked on. If the cord becomesdamaged or frayed, replace it immediately.ï If you are using an extension cord or power strip with theproduct, make sure that the total of the amperes requiredby all the equipment on the extension is less than theextensionís rating. The total ratings of all equipmentplugged into the outlet should not exceed 15 amperes.ï Do not poke anything into the ventilation slots of theproduct. You could get an electrical shock or causehazardous electrical arcing, which could cause a fire.ï Aside from the routine maintenance described in thedocumentation, do not try to service the product yourself.Removing the cover may expose you to shocks or otherhazards.ï Do not make any adjustments other than those outlined inthe documentation. You may cause damage that willrequire extensive repair work. The provideddocumentation explains how to get your product servicedby qualified Oki Data technicians.If anything happens that indicates that your product is notworking properly or has been damaged, unplug itimmediately and follow the procedures in the provideddocumentation for having your product serviced.Here are some of the things to look for.ï The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.ï Liquid has been spilled into the product, or the product hasbeen exposed to water.ï The product has been dropped, or the cabinet is damaged.ï The product does not function normally when you arefollowing the operating instructions.Additional Safety Informaton forTelecommunications EquipmentWhen using your telephone equipment, basic safetyprecautions should always be followed to reduce the risk offire, electric shock and injury to persons, including thefollowing:ï Do not use this product near waterófor example, near abathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink or laundry tubóin a wetbasement, or near a swimming pool.ï Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type)during an electrical storm. There may be a remote risk ofelectric shock from lightning.ï Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in thevicinity of the leak.ï Use only the power cord and batteries indicated in thismanual.
