28 OperationButtonsWhen the printer is selected (SEL light on), only the functions marked at the top of thebank of buttons (LF, FF/LOAD, TEAR, PARK, QUIET) are in effect. When the printeris deselected (SEL light off), the functions marked at the bottom of the buttons (MicroFeed Down, Micro Feed Up, TOF) can be accessed by means of the SHIFT button.Each button can have several functions, depending on the mode in use (Print Modeor Menu Mode), on whether or not the printer is selected and on whether or not theoptional Cut Sheet Feeder (CSF) is installed. Most buttons also have a different func-tion if they are pressed while the printer is being turned on. In addition, differentcombinations of two buttons can be used to access functions.The various function available for each button are summarized in the table below.The PRINT QUALITY and CHARACTER PITCH buttons are discussed under“Performing Basic Tasks,” later in this chapter.
