• The LINE terminal connects your fax machine to astandard telephone line. To avoid damage to yourtelephone system or to the fax unit, do not plug yourfax machine into anything other than a standardRJ-11C jack.• Your fax unit is intended to be grounded electricallyand is equipped with a three-wire grounded powercord. For your safety, do not attempt to defeat yourpower cord’s grounding plug.• The power outlet should be located near the equipmentand should be easily accessible.• The TEL port on the back of the unit is only suitablefor 2-wire devices. Not all standard telephones willrespond to incoming ringing when connected to anextension socket.• This equipment may not necessarily provide for theeffective hand-over of a call from a telephoneconnected to the same line.Operation and Maintenance• Use a dry cloth to clean the control panel and the mainbody of the unit.• Aside from replacing the toner and image drumcartridge, do not disassemble or attempt to service thisunit yourself. Refer to a qualified technician forservice. See “Service and Support.”• Disconnect the power cord before trying to remove anyobjects that may have fallen into the machine.• When relocating your fax unit, always disconnect thetelephone line before disconnecting the power cord,then reconnect the power cord first.• This unit is not intended to be used in parallel with anyother telephone devices.• If anything happens that indicates that the fax unit isnot working properly or has been damaged, unplug itimmediately and follow the instructions in “Serviceand Support” for having your fax unit serviced. Theseare some of the things to look for:- The power cord or plug is frayed or damaged.- Liquid has been spilled into the printer, or it hasbeen exposed to water.- The fax unit has been dropped, or the cabinet isdamaged.- The fax unit does not function properly whenyou’re following the operating instructions.Toner Cartridge and Image Drum UnitHandling• Leave unused toner cartridges and image drum units intheir packages until needed. When replacing a tonercartridge or image unit, re-use the packaging to disposeof the old toner cartridge or image drum unit. Be sureto dispose of it in an environmentally sound manner.• Do not expose these components to light for more thanfive minutes. Never expose the green drum (inside theimage drum unit) to direct sunlight.• Always hold the image drum unit by the ends–never bythe middle. Never touch the surface of the green druminside the image drum unit.• Exercise care when removing the toner cartridge. Donot let it touch your clothing or porous materials. Thetoner powder causes permanent stains.• Small amounts of toner spilled on skin or clothing canbe readily removed with soap and cold water. Usingheated water will make removing the stain much moredifficult.Emergency First Aid• If toner is swallowed: Dilute by giving two glasses ofwater and induce vomiting by administering Syrup ofIpecac (follow manufacturer’s instructions). Seekmedical attention. Never attempt to induce vomiting orgive anything by mouth to a person who isunconscious.• If toner is inhaled: Take person to an open area forfresh air. Seek medical attention.• If toner gets in the eyes: Flush eyes with largequantities of cool water for 15 minutes, keepingeyelids open with fingers.
