DMTA-10043-01EN, Rev. C, July 2016Maintenance and Troubleshooting 6911. Maintenance and TroubleshootingThis chapter describes how to maintain your 27MG instrument by carrying outroutine care and maintenance.11.1 Routine Care and MaintenanceThe 27MG case is sealed to prevent intrusion of environmental liquids and dust. However, it is not completely waterproof. Therefore, the unit should never beimmersed in any fluid. The case, keypad, and display window may be cleaned with a damp cloth and milddetergent if necessary. Do not use strong solvents or abrasives.11.2 Transducers MaintenanceThe ultrasonic transducers or probes used with the 27MG Ultrasonic Thickness Gageare rugged devices that need little care. They are not indestructible, however, and alittle attention to the following items will result in the longest transducer life:• The cables can be damaged by cutting, pinching, or pulling. Care must be taken toprevent mechanical abuse to the cables. Never leave a transducer where a heavyobject can be placed on the cable. Never remove a transducer from the gage bypulling on the cable. Pull on the molded connector housing only. Never tie a knotin a transducer cable.• Do not twist or pull the cable at the point where it connects to the transducer. These precautions are particularly important for all transducers other than themodels that have field-replaceable cables.• Transducer performance will be degraded by excessive wear at the tip. Tominimize wear, do not scrape or drag the transducer across rough surfaces. When
