FILM SPEED METERING THE AMOUNT OF LIGHTFilm SpeedFilm speed is indicated on the back of filmpackages. ISO 100, ISO 200, and ISO 400are the most common. High-speed film (ISO400), as implied by its name, is for takingphotos of fast-moving subjects in actionshots, for example. However, there are alsoother advantages. With high-speed film, such as ISO 400, it is possible to takepictures in lower light. And the distancecovered by the flash will be greater.Generally, the higher the film speed, thegrainier the picture. With this camera, we recommend the use of"DX" film cartridges: ISO 25 ~ 3200. In thecase of non-DX-coded film, the camera willautomatically be set to film speed ISO 32.Light MeteringLight metering can measure the brightnessof the framed subject in various ways. Thiscamera employs three metering systems: (1)ESP light metering, (2) center-weightedaverage light metering, and (3) spotmetering. You can select the light meteringsystem most suitable to the conditions. Thecamera also uses TTL (through-the-lens)light metering to automatically measure thelight that enters the lens. This lets you getvery accurate light readings that areunaffected by changes in the distancebetween the subject and the camera.Fuzzy Logic ESP (Electro-SelectivePattern) Light MeteringESP light metering measures the brightnessof the central portion and peripheral portionof the frame separately in order to determinethe proper exposure. The calculationprogram used is based on programmed datato properly compensate for backlighting.ESP light metering is used automaticallywhen in the Full-Auto mode.51
