OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSNOTESome engines are equipped withan engine starting motor protec-tion feature. If the starting mo-tor is engaged for 30 or more sec-onds, without the engine starting,the starter will be locked out fromoperating, allowing for proper cool-ing of the starting motor. Duringthis time, the “Wait-to-Start” lampwill flash for two minutes. Oncethe lamp discontinues flashing, thestarting motor will be allowed tofunction.CAUTIONThe engine must have adequate oilpressure within 15 seconds afterstarting the engine. If the oil pres-sure gauge does not register theminimum pressure, or drops belowthe minimum pressure, a red warn-ing light in the gauge will come on,a warning buzzer will sound, andthe “Stop Engine” lamp will comeon. This should be considered anemergency. Operating the enginein this condition may cause severeengine damage. You should stopthe vehicle as safely as possible.The vehicle must be serviced andthe problem corrected before driv-ing again.Cold Weather StartingGeneral InformationCAUTIONTo reduce the possibility of dam-age to the lubricating oil pan, dueto the composite materials used inthe manufacture of the lubricatingoil pan, under no circumstancesshould an external heat source beapplied directly or indirectly to thelubricating oil pan.Follow the “Normal Starting Procedure”on page 4-4. If equipped with an intakeair heater, the “Wait-to-Start” lamp willstay on longer.Refer to the vehicle operator's manualinstructions for any additional coldweather starting procedures.If starting a cold engine, slowlyincrease the engine speed.
