105The other feature of i.Resolution, if not set to i.zoom, is to applysharpening to only those areas of the image where there is largeamounts of contrast changes – i.e where there are plenty image details. In large areas of equal tone such as in some skies and open landscapesthe software does not “sharpen” these areas. It applies local edgesharpening to the image which gives the appearance of extra resolutionor sharpness. Basically the image resolution hasn’t changed as that is aphysical combination of pixel density and lens resolving power. What youare seeing is an apparent increase in resolving power due to increasedimage contrast. From my own experience, and from other comments on camera forums,it would appear that this can either;Go un-noticed.Make the image worse by showing pixelation in skies.Over sharpen causing white halos on fine detail such as branches intrees and fabric on upholstery. As local contrast can be applied in post processing, where you cancontrol the degree and location of this applied effect, it might be wiser toleave this turned off rather than risk image degradation.i.Dynamic The i.Dynamic feature is asoftware process whichattempts to increase therange of brightnesscaptured by the camera. There are 4 settings of Low,Standard, High and Off. It issimilar to HDR as it raisesshadow brightness andlowers highlight intensity. If you use i.Dynamic andhave ISO set at 100 thecamera will raise the ISO to160 to achieve the result! The i.Dynamic menu option
