Others106∫ BatteryThe battery is a rechargeable lithium ionbattery. Its ability to generate power isbased upon the chemical reaction thattakes place inside it. This reaction issusceptible to the surrounding temperatureand humidity, and, if the temperature is toohigh or too low, the operating time of thebattery will be shorter. When you go out, bring charged sparebatteries.• Prepare batteries with the charger equalto 3 to 4 times of the power for the desiredoperating time. The operating time of thebattery may become shorter under lowtemperature such as skiing grounds.• When you travel, be sure to prepare thesupplied charger to charge the battery onthe spot.If you drop the battery accidentally, check to see if the battery body andterminals are damaged.• Inserting damaged battery in the cameramay damage the camera. After use, be sure to remove the cardand the battery or disconnect the plugfrom the electrical outlet.• Extremely high or low temperatures willshorten the life of the battery.• If the battery is kept in smoky or dustyplaces, the terminals may rust and causemalfunctions.Dispose of an unusable battery.• The battery has a limited life.• Do not throw the battery into fire becauseit may cause an explosion.• An unusable battery should be discardedin accordance with battery recycling laws. For information you can call the RBRChotline at 1-800-822-8837.Do not allow the battery terminals tocome in contact with metal objects(such as necklaces, hairpins, etc.).• This can result in a short circuit or heatgeneration and, if you touch the battery inthis condition, you may be badly burned.∫ Charger• If you use the charger near a radio, radioreception may be disturbed. Keep thecharger 3.28 feet (1 m) or more away fromradio.• When the charger is in use, it maygenerate whirring sounds. However, this isnot a malfunction.• After use, be sure to disconnect thecharger from the electrical outlet. (If it isleft connected, a minute amount of currentis consumed.)• Keep the terminal of the charger andbattery clean.∫ Condensation (When the lens or theViewfinder is fogged up)When condensation has taken place:• Turn the camera off and leave the camerain this condition for about 2 hours. Whenthe camera becomes close to the ambienttemperature, the condensationdisappears naturally.• When you move the camera from a coldplace to a hot place, put the camera intoplastic bag and then take it out after thetemperature of the camera becomes closeto the ambient temperature to avoidcondensation. If condensation has taken place, it causesa malfunction.Be careful to avoid condensation and takeproper measures when condensationoccurs.
