94ª Optimal Use of the BatteryBattery CharacteristicsThis Battery is a rechargeable lithium ion battery. Itsability to generate power is based upon thechemical reaction that takes place inside it. Thisreaction is affected by the surrounding temperatureand humidity, and, if the temperature is too high ortoo low, the operating time of the Battery becomesshorter. If the Battery is used in an extremely coldenvironment, the Battery may operate only for about5 minutes. If the Battery becomes extremely hot, aprotective function may operate, and the Batterymay even become unusable for awhile.Be Sure to Detach the Battery After UseBe sure to detach the Battery from the Palmcorder.(If it is left attached to the Palmcorder, a minuteamount of current is consumed even when thePalmcorder power is off.) If the Battery is leftattached to the Palmcorder for a long time, overdischarge takes place. The Battery may becomeunusable after it is charged.Disposing of an unusable Battery≥The Battery has a limited life.≥Do not throw the Battery into fire because it maycause an explosion.Always Keep the Terminals of the Battery CleanPrevent the terminals from getting clogged with dirt, dust, or other substances. If you drop the Battery accidentally, check to see ifthe Battery body and terminals are damaged.Attaching a damaged Battery to the Palmcorder orAC Adaptor may damage the Palmcorder or ACAdaptor.ª Cautions for StorageBefore storing the Palmcorder, take the Cassetteout and detach the Battery.Store all the components in a dry place with arelatively stable temperature.≥Recommended Temperature: 59 oF to 77 oF (15oCto 25 oC), Recommended Humidity: 40% to 60%Palmcorder≥Wrap it with a soft cloth to prevent dust fromgetting into the Palmcorder.≥Do not leave the Palmcorder in places that exposeit to high temperature.Battery≥Extremely high temperatures or low temperatureswill shorten the life of the Battery.≥If the Battery is kept in smoky or dusty places, theterminals may rust and cause malfunctions.≥Do not allow the Battery terminals to come incontact with metal objects (such as necklaces, hairpins, etc.) This can result in a short circuit orheat generation and, if you touch the Battery in thiscondition, you may be badly burned.≥Store the Battery in a completely discharged state. To store the Battery for a long period of time, werecommend you charge it once every year andstore it again after you completely use up thecharged capacity.Cassette≥Before storing it, rewind the tape to the beginning. If the Cassette is left for more than 6 months withthe tape stopped midway, the tape sags (althoughit depends on the storage conditions.) Be sure torewind to the beginning.≥Store the Cassette in its case. Dust, direct sunlight(ultraviolet rays), or humidity may damage thetape. Dust contains hard mineral particles, anddusty Cassettes damage the heads of thePalmcorder and other components. Develop ahabit of returning the Cassette back to its case.≥Twice a year, wind the tape to the end and thenrewind it to the beginning. If the Cassette is left for1 year or longer without winding or rewinding, temperature and humidity changes may cause theCassette to deform due to swelling, shrinking, andso forth. The wound tape may stick to itself.≥Do not place a Cassette near highly magneticsubstances or equipment.≥The surface of tape is covered with extremelyminute magnetic particles, upon which signals arerecorded. Magnetic necklaces, toys, etc., havemagnetic force that is stronger than you maynormally expect, and they may erase the contentsof a recording or may cause noise in images andsounds.Card≥When the Card is being read, do not remove theCard, turn off the power, or subject it to vibration orimpact.≥Do not leave the Card in places where there ishigh temperature or direct sunlight, or whereelectromagnetic waves or static electricity areeasily generated.≥Do not bend or drop the Card. The Card or therecorded content may be damaged.≥After use, be sure to remove the Card from thePalmcorder.≥After use, store the supplied SD Memory Card inthe enclosed bag.≥Do not touch the terminals on the back of the Cardwith your fingers. Do not allow dirt, dust or water toenter it.≥Keep the Memory Card out of reach of children toprevent swallowing.
