17Basic OperationCamera RecordingBefore you begin...• Connect Camcorder to power source.• Insert cassette with record tab (page 11).View recording scene on EVF (ElectronicViewer Finder) or LCD (Liquid CrystalDisplay) monitor.Recording via EVF or LCDMonitor1 Press LCD-OPEN to unlock the LCDmonitor. Swing LCD monitor fully openand adjust viewing angle.• If you want to record using EVF, closeand lock LCD monitor.2 Set POWER toCAMERA.• Be sure POWERis fully turned toCAMERA position.• EVF or LCD monitorturns on/off by the POWER switch.• EVF shuts off when LCD monitor isopened and turns back on when LCD isclosed.• Both EVF and LCD monitor turn onwhen LCD is at 180° (see above left).This allows both you and the subject toview the recording.3 LCD : Press BRIGHTADJUSTMENTto adjust LCDmonitorbrightness level.EVF : Look into EVF and adjustVISION ADJUSTMENT to youreyesight.4 Hold down TAPE SPEED for about 1second to change tape speed to SP/SLP(page 11).5 Press RECORD/PAUSE to start orpause recording.6 Set POWER toOFF when finished.• To remove the cassette, slide theTAPE EJECT switch (page 11).Note:• When Camcorder is aimed at excessively brightobjects, or bright lights, a vertical bar mayappear in the picture. This is normal for theCCD pick-up. Try to avoid this when possible.• Using LCD monitor reduces battery operationtime. Return LCD monitor to locked positionwhen not in use.EVF or LCD Monitor(Record/Pause mode)EVF or LCD Monitor(Record mode)Tape speedWARNING :• Do not leave the camcorder with the EVFaimed directly at the sun.
