33Normally stereo reproduction uses left and right speakers, but Dolby Pro Logic Surround also uses a centre channel and a rearchannel. The centre channel sharpens sound perspective and dialogue clarity whilst the rear channel is used to immerse the viewerin ambience and special effects. To use Dolby Pro Logic Surround when receiving television programmes that have been encoded with Dolby Surroundinformation, you must be able to receive NICAM Stereo transmissions. If NICAM Stereo transmissions are not transmitted in yourarea then the Dolby Surround information will not be present and Pro Logic decoding will produce a centre channel only output(unless you are playing back from a stereo VCR, Digital Versatile Disc etc.).Dolby Pro Logic Surround operates best with videos, laserdiscs and TV programmes that bear the Dolby Surround logo, but canalso be used to good effect with stereo sources not encoded in Dolby Surround and mono sources, affording compatibility with anysource.Ensure that the “Surround”feature is switched OnOpen the Sound menuMove to Surround menuAccess Surround menuMove to your choiceIncrease or decrease levels, setoptions or access further menusPress the TV/AV button to exitThe volume adjustment sets the overallSurround output volume.Choosing Pro Logic allows selection ofNormal, Phantom or 3 Stereo modes,as described on page 34.Choosing Simulated allows selection ofDisco, Movie or Stadium modes, asdescribed on page 35.Allows adjustment of the output levels for each channel, as described on page 35.Allows setting of the distance from the listening position to the front speakers.Allows setting of the distance from the listening position to the rear speakers. If the rear surround speakersare closer to you than the centre speaker, you may hear dialogue “leakage” from the rear surroundspeakers. It may be necessary to reduce the output level of the rear channel to rectify this phenomenon.Normally set to On, but, when separate external amplified front speakers are connected, then the internalspeakers can be switched Off. See page 42 for connection details.SURROUND MENUSelectAccessExitTV/AVSound menuVolumeBassTrebleHeadphone volume3D Subwoofer NormalNICAM OnSurround menu AccessReturn --SelectAccessExitTV/AVSurround menuVolumeSurround mode Pro LogicPro Logic setting NormalSpeaker level AccessFront distance 3mRear distance 3mInternal speaker OnSOUNDTV/AVVolumeSpeaker levelSurround modePro Logic/Simulated settingFront distanceRear distanceInternal speaker
