Maintenance4-113360-A2-GB20-30 March 1999SNMP TrapsA trap is an unsolicited message that is sent from theE1 NTU to an SNMP manager when the device detectscertain, pre-specified conditions. These traps enable theSNMP manager to monitor the state of the network. The SNMP Trap configuration option must be enabledfor trap messages to be sent over the communicationslink. You must specify the number of SNMP managersthat are to receive traps from this device, an IP address foreach SNMP manager specified, and the type of traps to besent from this device. For more information, refer toAppendix C, Configuration Options, and the ConfiguringSNMP Traps section in Chapter 3, Operation.Trap types consist of the following:• General traps – include warmStart andauthenticationFailure. The device sends awarmStart trap after it has been reset to indicatethat it has just reinitialized itself. The device sendsan authenticationFailure trap when it has receivedan SNMP protocol message that has not beenproperly authenticated. These traps are set by theGen Trap configuration option.• Enterprise Specific traps – signify that the devicehas recognized an enterprise-specific event. SeeTable 4-5 for enterprise-specific traps. These trapsare set by the Entp Trap configuration option.• Link Traps – identify the condition of thecommunications interface, either linkDown (one ofthe communications interfaces has failed) or linkUp(one of the communications interfaces has justcome up). These traps are set by the Link Trapconfiguration option. The communicationsinterfaces for which these traps can be generatedare specified by the Trap I/F configuration option.Table 4-6 defines traps for each interface.Table 4-5Enterprise-Specific Trap DefinitionsTrap Value EvententerpriseClockFail(1) The currently configuredprimary clock source hasfailed.enterpriseSelfTestFail(2) A device hardware failureis detected at self-test.This trap is generated afterdevice initialization.enterpriseDeviceFail(3) An internal device failure isdetected by the operatingsoftware.enterpriseSecClockFail(4) The currently configuredsecondary clock sourcehas failed.enterpriseTestStart(5) A test is initiated.enterpriseTestClear(105) A test is concluded.Table 4-6SNMP Trap per InterfaceInterface Trap MeaningHDSL Network Up = No alarm or testconditions.Down = Alarm or testconditions.G.703 DTE Up = No alarm or testconditions, and theinterface is enabled.Down = Alarm or testconditions, or the interfaceis disabled.Synchronous Data Ports Up = No test conditions, the port is assigned to anetwork interface, and bothCTS and DSR are ON.Down = Test conditions, the port is unassigned, oreither CTS or DSR is off.
