Keep the shaver dry (Fig. 1).Remove the batteries from the appliance if you arenot going to use it for quite some time.Compliance with standardsThis Philips appliance complies with all standardsregarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handledproperly and according to the instructions in thisuser manual, the appliance is safe to use based onscientific evidence available today.Preparing for useThe appliance runs on two R6 AA 1.5-volt alkalinebatteries. We strongly advise you to use Philips Powerlifebatteries. They supply sufficient energy for up to60 minutes of shaving.inserting batteries1 Remove the lid of the battery compartment (Fig. 2).2 Put two batteries in the batterycompartment (Fig. 3).Make sure your hands and the appliance are dry whenyou insert the batteries.Make sure the + and - poles of the batteries pointin the right directionNote:The appliance does not work if the batteries havebeen placed incorrectly.3 Put the lid of the battery compartment back ontothe appliance (‘click’).Avoiding damage due to batteryleakageRemove the batteries if you are not going to use theappliance for a month or more.Do not leave empty batteries in the appliance.Using the appliance1 Remove the protection cap.2 Push the on/off slide upwards to switch on theshaver (Fig. 4).3 Move the shaving heads quickly over your skin.Make both straight and circular movements (Fig. 5).Note: Shaving on a dry face gives the best results.Note:Your skin may need 2 or 3 weeks to get accustomed tothe Philips shaving system.4 Push the on/off slide downwards to switch off theshaver.5 Put the protection cap on the shaver to preventdamage to the shaving heads (Fig. 6).Cleaning and maintenanceRegular cleaning guarantees better shaving performance.every week: shaving unit and hair chamber1 Switch off the shaver.2 Brush the outside of the shaving unit with thebrush supplied (Fig. 7).3 Remove the shaving unit (Fig. 8).4 Brush the inside of the shaving unit (Fig. 9).------,--5 Brush the hair chamber (Fig. 10).6 Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.every two months: shaving headsNote: Do not use cleaning agents or alcohol to clean theshaving heads. Only use the HQ110 Shaving Head CleaningSpray.1 Switch off the shaver.2 Remove the shaving unit (Fig. 8).3 Turn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove theretaining frame (2) (Fig. 11).4 Remove the shaving heads from the shaving unitone by one (Fig. 12).Note: Do not clean more than one cutter and guard at atime, since they are all matching sets. If you accidentally mixup the cutters and guards, it may take several weeks beforeoptimal shaving performance is restored.5 Remove the cutter from the guard (Fig. 13).6 Clean the cutter with the short-bristled side of thebrush (Fig. 14).7 Brush the guard (Fig. 15).8 Put the shaving heads back into the shaving unit.9 Put the retaining frame back into the shaving unitand turn the wheel clockwise.10 Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.Tip: For optimal shaving performance, we advise you tolubricate the shaving heads with a drop of sewing machineoil every six months.storagePut the protection cap on the shaver after use toprevent damage to the shaving heads (Fig. 6).ReplacementReplace the shaving heads every two years for optimalshaving results.Replace damaged or worn shaving heads with HQ4+Philips Micro+ Lift & Cut Shaving Heads.1 Switch off the shaver.2 Remove the shaving unit (Fig. 8).3 Turn the wheel anticlockwise (1) and remove theretaining frame (2) (Fig. 11).4 Remove the shaving heads from the shaving unitand replace them with new ones (Fig. 12).5 Put the retaining frame back into the shaving unitand turn the wheel clockwise.6 Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.AccessoriesThe following accessories are available:HQ4+ Philips Micro+ Lift & Cut Shaving HeadsHQ110 Philips Shaving Head Cleaning Spray (notavailable in some countries)environmentDo not throw away the appliance with the normalhousehold waste at the end of its life, but hand it inat an official collection point for recycling. By doingthis, you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 16).Batteries contain substances that may pollutethe environment. Do not throw away emptybatteries with the normal household waste, butdispose of them at an official collection point forbatteries. Clean the shavingheads thoroughly (see chapter‘Cleaning and maintenance’).Long hairs may be obstructing theshaving heads. Clean the cuttersand guards properly with the brushsupplied (see chapter ‘Cleaning andmaintenance’).The shaving heads may be damagedor worn. Replace the shaving heads(see chapter ‘Replacement’).The batteries may be running low.Replace the batteries (see chapter‘Preparing for use’).The shaverdoesn’t switchon when Ipush the on/offslide upwards.The batteries may be empty. Replacethe batteries (see chapter ‘Preparingfor use’).You may have inserted thebatteries incorrectly. Insert thebatteries correctly into the batterycompartment.
