Pocket PC Phone User Manual68SynchronizingInformation4.2 Synchronizing Outlook InformationThis section provides an overview of the types of Outlook information you can synchronize.By default, ActiveSync does not automatically synchronize all types of Outlook information.Use ActiveSync Options on your desktop PC to turn synchronization on and off for specificinformation types.Synchronizing Outlook E-mailAfter selecting Inbox for synchronization in ActiveSync, Outlook E-mail messages aresynchronized as part of the general synchronization process. During synchronization:n Messages are copied from the Inbox folder on your desktop PC or the Exchange Serverto the Inbox folder of the Outlook E-mail account on your Pocket PC Phone. You can onlysynchronize information directly with an Exchange Server if your company or service provideris running Mobile Information Server 2002 or later. By default, you’ll receive messages fromthe last three days only; the first 100 lines of each new message; and file attachments ofless than 100 KB in size.n Messages in the Outbox folder on your device are transferred to Exchange or Outlook andthen sent from those programs.n The messages on the two computers are linked. When you delete a message on yourdevice, it’s deleted from your PC the next time you synchronize.n Messages in subfolders in other E-mail folders in Outlook are synchronized only if theyhave been selected for synchronization in ActiveSync.For information on initiating Outlook E-mail synchronization or changing synchronizationsettings, see ActiveSync Help on the PC or Connections Help. Text messages (SMS)and Media messages (MMS) are not received through synchronization. Instead, they aresent to your device via your service provider.Synchronizing Calendarn Calendar items stored on your Pocket PCPhone can be synchronized with calendaritems on your PC or Exchange Server. Youcan only synchronize information directlywith an Exchange Server if your companyis running Mobile Information Server 2002or later. Calendar synchronization isautomatically selected in ActiveSync.n Calendar items entered on one computer arecopied to the other during synchronization.Handwritten notes and drawings are savedas metafiles (pictures).
