4. HANGING YOUR FAN5. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONSWARNING - Turn off the power!REMEMBER - Turn off the power!DO NOT fasten the blades to the fanuntil it is assembled and hanging fromthe ceiling.1. (Fig. 5) Secure the ceiling mountingplate to the outlet box using the 2 longsteel screws and washers supplied withthe fan.2. (Fig. 6) Place the ceiling canopyring between the motor assembly and thecanopy. Locate the motor cable whichextends from the top of the motor assem-bly. Thread the looped end through theceiling canopy ring and into the centerhole in the bottom of the ceiling canopy. The excess motor cable can be loopedinto a coil and tucked into the canopy.Fasten the attached conical cable holderto the bottom of the canopy using thetwo small screws provided3. (Fig. 7) Thread the electrical cablefrom the top of the motor assembly intothe hole adjacent to the center hole in theceiling canopy. Take care to be sure theelectrical cable does not twist with themotor cable. Proceed by inserting theelectrical cable into the plastic cablestopper as shown in Fig. 7.HANGING CABLE INSTALLATION4. (Fig. 8) Select the appropriate hang-ing cable spool for the desired hangingdistance from the ceiling (6", 12", 18",24", 36", 48", 60" & 72" lengths).Thread one end of the cable up throughthe hole in the canopy and cableblock.Using screw provided secure thecable to the cable block. Thread thehanging cable around the halo and halosupport and thread through the canopy(see illustration). The fan can beadjusted after the cable is secured.5. (Fig. 9) Once the cables are at theirdesired length, lift the fan to the ceilingand hang the canopy on the hook locatedon the ceiling mounting plate. This willallow the fan to hang freely while wiringconnections are made. The excess elec-tric cable can also be looped into a coiland tucked inside the canopy.Outlet BoxCeilingCeilingMountingPlateHookFanAssembly3. MOUNTING OPTIONS WARNING - To reduce the risk ofshock, fire or injury, mount the fan ONLYto an outlet marked “Acceptable for FanSupport”.1. Disconnect the power by removingfuses or turning off circuit breakers.2. If there is an existing outlet box, ensure it is clearly marked “Suitable ForFan Support”. If it is not so marked, itmust be replaced with an approved one.3. Secure the outlet box (or make surethe existing box is secured) directly tothe building structure. Use appropriatefasteners and building materials.4. Figures 1, 2 and 3 are examples ofdifferent ways to mount the outlet box indifferent situations. A longer downrodmay be required in sloped ceiling situa-tions to maintain proper blade clearance.5. To hang the fan in locations whereno ceiling joist is available, a hangersupport bar may be required (Fig. 4).Quorum distributes approved hangersupport bars and outlet boxes.Fig. 1Ceiling JoistsOutlet BoxesFig. 2Ceiling JoistsOutlet BoxFig. 3Ceiling JoistsRecessed Outlet BoxFig. 4Ceiling Joist HangerSupport BarCeiling JoistOutlet BoxPlastic CableStopperFig. 10NOTE: It may be necessary to bind thehouse wires to the corresponding receiverwires with electrical tape before cappingthem with wire nuts. This will preventthem from slipping apart during the rest ofthe installation.Use the wire nuts supplied with your fanwhen making connections. Secure theconnectors with electrical tape and makesure there are no loose connections orwire strands.NOTE: It is not advisable to cut off theextra electric or motor cable. This willprevent any major height adjustments inthe future.1. Make wire connections from the fanto the wall control receiver unit. For thisstep use the bundle of 3 wires on thereceiver. (Fig. 10)• Connect the BLACK fan wire to theBLACK receiver wire.• Connect the WHITE fan neutral wireto the WHITE receiver neutral wire.• Connect the WHITE fan neutral wireto the WHITE receiver neutral wire.2. Connect the wiring from the ceilingto the receiver unit. (Use the 2 wire bun-dle on the receiver.) Secure with suppliedwire nuts.• Connect the BLACK building supplywire to the BLACK receiver wire.• Connect the WHITE receiver neutralwire to the WHITE building neutralwire.• Connect the COPPER buildingground wire to the GREEN fanground wire.3. Connect the wiring from the wallswitch receptacle to wall transmitter unit.• Remove the existing wall plate andswitch from the wall junction box.• Connect one BLACK wire from thewall to one BLACK wire from thewall transmitter.• Connect the other BLACK wire fromAngledceilingmaximum35° angleusing 6”cables.Angel Inst -5/04 6/23/2004 12:00 AM Page 3
