Opacity is measured in percent; 100% opacity is whenan object is totally obscured by the smoke column from achimney, and 0% opacity means that no smoke column canbe seen. As you become familiar with your appliance, youshould periodically check the opacity. This will allow you toknow how to burn as nearly smoke-free as possible (goal of0% opacity).NOTE: If your Quadra-Fire wood stove is equipped with anoptional blower, you should follow these guidelines:1. Initial (cold) start-up and all Burn SettingsThe blower can be plugged in and turned on right away.The blower fan is turned on and off by a snap disc.When your stove has reached a certain temperaturethe blower will turn on and when your stove has cooleddown to a certain temperature it will turn off.NOTE: The blower can still be left on at all burn rateseven if you have deactivated the snap disc with themanual over-ride knob. See page 15.2. The blower is equipped with a speed control. Adjustthe fan speed by turning the speed control clockwiseto “Low” or counterclockwise to “High”.. Snap Disc LocationIf you find the blower coming on and off at undesirabletemperatures, relocate the snap disc to another locationin the designated zone on the back of the appliance.Figure 29.1. This iscaused by the curing of the paint and the burning off of any oils remaining from manufacturing.Metallic noise Noise is caused by metal expanding and contracting as it heats up and cools down, similar tothe sound produced by a furnace or heating duct. This noise does not affect the operation orlongevity of the appliance.Whirring sound If the optional blower has been installed, the blower produces a whirring sound whichincreases in volume as the speed is increased.
