11June 4, 2019 7027-805CCB1200 Pellet InsertH. Starting Your First Fire1. A thermostat is required for proper operation of thisappliance. At this time, fill the hopper with pellets, setthe thermostat to its lowest setting. Plug the power cordinto nearby outlet.2. The exhaust blower will stay on for approximately 18minutes even though the thermostat is not calling forheat. This is normal.3. Locate the heat output control switch on the lower rightside of the firebox in front of the right access panel. Setto the HIGH setting and then adjust the thermostat toits highest setting. The red call light will be on which islocated on the front of the junction box behind the leftaccess panel. This indicates the thermostat is callingfor heat (Figure 10.1 on page 10).4. The fuel feed system and the igniter should now be on.5. For your first fire it will be necessary to press the resetbutton once a minute until pellets start to drop into thefire pot, then press button 1 more time. This will fill thefeed system and allow the appliance to begin droppingpellets. The appliance will continue to run as long asthe thermostat is calling for heat.6. Once the appliance has ignited, let it burn forapproximately 15 minutes, then set the thermostat tothe desired room temperature. Adjust the heat outputcontrol switch to the desired setting.WARNINGFire RiskDo NOT operate appliance:• With appliance door open.• Fire pot floor open.• Cleaning slide plates open.Do NOT store fuel:• Closer than required clearances tocombustibles to appliance• Within space required for loading orash removal.J. Feed Rate Adjustment InstructionsThe feed adjustment control rod is factory set, and shouldbe adequate for most fuels. The set screw is located at thebottom of the hopper and set loose at the factory so the fueladjustment control rod will slide by only loosening the wingnut (Figure 11.1). Do not re-tighten bottom set screw. However, if the flame height is too high or too low, youwill need to adjust the feed rate. Wait until the appliancehas been burning for 15 minutes before making youradjustments and allow 15 minutes for feed adjustment totake effect.1. Loosen the wing nut (Figure 11.1).2. Adjust the fuel adjustment control rod upwards toincrease the feed rate and flame height or downwardsto decrease the feed rate and flame height.3. Re-tighten the wing nut.I. Fire CharacteristicsA properly adjusted fire with the heat output controlswitch set on “HIGH” has a short active flame pattern thatextends out of the fire pot approximately 4 to 6 inches(102-105mm). If the fire has tall flames with black tailsand seems somewhat lazy, the feed rate will need to bereduced. If the fire is not 4 inches to 6 inches (102-105mm)tall, increase the feed rate. A medium and low setting willgive a shorter flame. The flame will rise and fall somewhat. This is normal.Figure 11.1 - ExampleFuel AdjustmentRodThumbScrew Set ScrewHot while in operation.
