Cleaning Firepot using Lever• Frequency: Daily or as needed*• By: Homeowner*When burning high ash content pellet fuel or a pellet/cornmix you may need to clean the firepot several times a day.a. Be sure the appliance is allowed to cool.b. Open cast face of appliancec. Pull firepot floor cleaning lever two times until the ash fallsinto the ashpan below. Figure 16.2d. It may be necessary to use your firepot clean-out tool tochip away material that has built up on the sides of thefirepot and to push out any clinkers. Figure 16.1e. Larger clinkers may have to be removed from the top ofthe firepot.f. If the clinker adheres to the sides of the firepot, youwill need to manually clean the firepot. The firepot floorplate must be fully closed when finished.2. Cleaning Ash Pan• Frequency: Weekly or every 3-5 bags• By: Homeownera. Locate the ash pan underneath the firepot.b. Slide the ash pan straight out.c. Empty into a non-combustible container and re-installash pan.d. When replacing ash pan push it back until it catches onthe 2 side latches.Clinkers filling the ash pan will have to be cleaned out moreoften than ash.Ash Disposal:Ashes should be placed in a steel container with a tight-fitting lid. The container of ashes should be moved outdoorsimmediately and placed on a non-combustible floor or onthe ground, well away from combustible materials, pendingfinal disposal.If the ashes are disposed of by burial in soil or otherwise locallydispersed, they should be retained in the closed container untilall cinders have thoroughly cooled. Other waste shall not beplaced in this container.3. Ash Removal from Firebox• Frequency: Weekly or more frequently depending onash build-up• By: Homeownera. Be sure the appliance is allowed to cool.b. There must not be any hot ashes in the firebox duringcleaning.c. Frequent cleaning of the ash in the firebox with avacuum cleaner will help slow down the build-up of ashin the exhaust blower and vent system.RISK OF FIREKeep combustible materials, gasoline and other flam-mable vapors and liquids clear of appliance.• Do NOT store flammable materials in the appli-ance’s vicinity.• Do NOT use gasoline, lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighterfluid or similar liquids to start or “freshen up” a fire in this heater.Keep all such liquids well away from the heater while itis in use as combustible materials may ignite.WARNING4.
