Minimum Fireplace OpeningMinimum fireplace opening requirements for a standard 3/4inch deep surround are shown in Figure 5.2. For smalleropenings, an optional 1-1/2 inch deep surround is availableand dimensions are shown in Figure 5.3.WARNING! Risk of Fire or Burns! Provide adequateclearance around air openings and for service access.Due to high temperatures, the appliance should be locat-ed out of traffic and away from furniture and draperies.• The firebrick (refractory), glass doors, screen rails, screenmesh and log grates can be removed from a factorybuilt firebox in order to gain minimum gas insert openingrequirements.• Any smoke shelves, shields and baffles may be removedfrom the factory built firebox if attached with mechanicalfasteners.• The metal floor of the solid fuel firebox may be removedto facilitate the installation of the insert.• Cutting of any sheet metal parts of the fireplace in whichthe gas fireplace insert is to be installed is prohibited,except the floor as tested for and as noted above and inFigure 5.1.• A minimum 1/2 inch gap from the bottom of theappliance to the metal floor of the solid fuel firebox isRECOMMENDED for optimal fan performance.
