Q40 Tape Library Installation and Operations Manual511026 Rev. 07-01-19 1408 Library TroubleshootingCAUTION This library is designed to operate when installed in a rack using the rackrail kit. Operating the library without installing it in the rails, such as on atable or rack shelf, could result in library errors. Placing any weight ontop of the library might also cause errors.8.1 Fibre Channel Connection ProblemsNavigate to the Status> Drive Status page to check the link connection for your tape drive. Each tape drives should report its connection Speed, Port Type, Interface Status and Port ID.If any of the items are missing, go to the Configuration > Drives page and verify that Speed and PortType are set to Automatic. If there are still issues:• Check the Speed and Port Type setting on the FC switch (if connected to switch) and the hostHBA. In some instances, speed or port type matching between drive and host may not becompatible. You may need to select the proper speed and port type on both drive and host toobtain a connection.• Disconnect and reconnect the FC cable. Check to see if the cable is damaged. FC cables aredelicate. If the cable has been bent or twisted sharply, it might be broken and must be replaced. If you are connected to a Loop port:• Try selecting Soft for the Loop mode to allow the system to select an available address each timethe tape drive connects to the FC fabric. If your server configuration does not support changingaddresses, try using the Hard Auto-Select option for the Loop mode. This allows the system toselect an available address when it first connects, and then retain that address for futureconnections.8.2 Detection Problems after Installing a SAS DriveProblems encountered after installation are often caused by improper SAS cable connections, applicationsoftware configuration errors, or an incorrectly configured operating system. If the application software oroperating system does not communicate with the library after installation, determine the extent of thedetection problem:• Does the application software detect the tape drive?• Does the application software detect the library?• Does the operating system detect the tape drive?• Does the operating system detect the library?• Does the operating system detect the library, but list it as a generic device? Based on the extent of thedetection problem, check the following:• If neither the application software nor operating system detects the tape drive:• Verify that all SAS cables are securely connected on both ends. Mini-SAS connectors arekeyed can only be connected one way. If you feel resistance when connecting the cable,
