8 Pub. No. 2200772355 — October 2006START-UP AND OPERATIONPRELIMINARY CONTROLSBefore starting the dryer, check for:1. The correct connection to the compressed air piping:remember to remove end caps on the dryer inlet andoutlet.2. The correct connection to the condensate drainagesystem.3. The correct power supply.STARTING AND STOPPINGAlways start the dryer at least 5 minutes before the aircompressor starts running and stop it after the aircompressor has been stopped in order to keep thecompressed air piping free of condensate. The dryer mustbe kept running while the air compressor is running.PRESSURE DISCHARGE PROCEDURESee Figure 13 on Page 10.1. Isolate the dryer from the air system (1).2. Release the pressure in the dryer by pressing thecondensate drain “TEST” pushbutton located on theauto drain (2).3. Switch off the machine by turning the STOP button toposition “0 OFF” (3).4. Turn off the power supply by opening the circuitbreaker or fused disconnect switch (4).CALIBRATIONSHOT GAS BYPASS VALVEThese valves have already been calibrated and they donot require any adjustment. A dew point different from therated one generally is caused by factors which are notattributable to their operation. Figure 10 shows:1. Closing cap2. Adjusting screwThis valve maintains therefrigerant suction pressure invarying load conditions. Thedryer will run from no load tofull load conditions withoutfreeze-up. The operation of thisvalve is automatic. If the valveneeds adjustment, turn theadjusting stem clockwise toraise the suction pressure, andcounterclockwise to lower the suction pressure. Thisadjustment should be made under a no-load condition ifpossible. When the adjustment is made, turn one quarterof a turn at a time, and wait 3 to 5 minutes betweenadjustments. Careful adjustment of this valve is necessaryfor normal operation of the air dryer. Hot gas bypassvalve adjustment may be made by maintenancepersonnel. (See Figure 10.)Table 2 — WORKING PRESSURES ANDTEMPERATURES OF R134ABefore making any change to the machine, ensure that the electric power supply hasbeen disconnected. Wait at least two hoursbefore starting up after any machinemovement (transport or handling). The following procedure must be per-formed by skilled personnel approved bythe manufacturer. If the dryer is switched off, before startingit again, wait at least 5 minutes to allowfor pressure balancing.SUCTION SIDE OFREFRIGERATION COMPRESSOREvaporatingTemperature°F (°C)EvaporatingPressurepsi (bar)RATED VALUESAT AMBIENTTEMPERATURE+68 °F (+20 °C)33.8 - 35.6(1 - 2)R134A29 - 31(2.1 - 2.3)21FIGURE 10 —BYPASS VALVE
