BASIC OPERATIONTRANSMITIno ’I ChT URN POWER ON by turning the Volume knobclockwise past the OFF detent. A beep sounds,indicating the radio is operational. The LCDbriefly displays the current Group and then theChannel.SELECT A GROUP by pressing the following keyson the keyboard: #, 2 (or 1) and then ENT.SELECT A CHANNEL by turning the Channel Selectorknob.ADJUST SQUELCH AND VOLUME by turning theSquelch knob clockwise until a rushing noise isheard. Set the volume to a comfortable level, thenturn the Squelch knob counterclockwise until thenoise stops. This is called the threshold squelchsetting.Turning the Squelch knob fully counterclockwisepast the detent places the receiver in Code Guardmode. A message will be heard only when theproper Code Guard value is received.Press the PTT (PushToTalk) switch. If installed,use the Speaker/Microphone’s PTT. When thetransmitter is on, the LCD goes blank.TALK IN A NORMAL VOICE With the microphone oneto two inches from your mouth.RELEASE THE PTT switch to stop transmitting.If the LCD display does not go blank when youpress the PTT switch, the battery pack may needto be charged; if so, the LCD will display LobAt.If a warbling tone sounds and the display showsno Ch, you are on a receive-only channel or thechannel is not programmed at all. Select anauthorized transmit channel.If the length of your message exceeds the presettimeout timersetting, the transmitter automaticallyshuts off and a tone sounds. To continue thetransmission, release the PTT switch, then pressit again and continue talking.4
