RemovethesixPhillipsscrewsfromthechassisthenliftthebodyawayfromthechassis.STEPsmall pipette of ProtoSmoke fluidisincluded). Donot overfill the unitorthefluidmayleakoutandcoatthe interior engine components.If youchoosenottoaddthefluid(orhavealreadyadded the fluid but choose torunsmoke-free),turnoffthe smoke unit switch located underthetender body.When the smoke output while running the enginebegins todiminish,addanother 10-15 drops of smokefluid or turn thesmokeunitoff.When storing the unit for long periods of time,you may wanttoaddabout15dropsoffluidtopreventthe wick fromdryingout.Afterremovingtheenginefromstorage, addanother 25dropsoffluid,letting the wicksoakup the fluid for 15 minutes priortooperation.If you experience poor or nosmokeoutput when the smokeunit is onandhasfluid, check the wick to see if it hasbecome hard, blackened, and unabsorbent around theheating element. Removetheboilerasshownbelow.Remove the smoke unit inspection coverfromthelocomotive's body (see right). After removing the chassisand inspection cover screws, lift theinspectionplateawayand inspect the wick. If it is darkly discolored andhard,itshould be replaced.
