10 I General User Manual6.4 Mountain bike (MTB) / cross bikeYou can use these bikes offroad. You must not use thesebikes in road traffic or competitions. If you wish to useyour bike on public roads, it must have the requisiteequipment features (see ➠ Chapter 5 "Legal provisions").The manufacturer and cycle shop will not accept liabilityclaims should the bike not be used as intended.This particularly applies for non-observance of the safetyinformation and damage resulting for example from:• use in competitions,• overloading,• incorrect repairs.• riding over steps,• jumping,• riding through deep water• extreme stresses on non-designated MTB routes orMTB courses.6.5 Road bike / fitness bikeYou may use these bikes on public roads for training pur-poses. You may use road bikes weighing up to 11 kg with-out permanently fitted dynamo lighting. If you choose todo so, you must carry a battery-operated front light and arear light. If the light has the required approval, there willbe an embossed sinuous line and K-number on it.When using road bikes that weigh more than 11 kg in roadtraffic, the required equipment features must be installed.Please familiarise yourself with the applicable regula-tions.The bike is exempt from these requirements for the dura-tion of officially approved cycling events.The manufacturer and cycle shop will not accept liabilityclaims should the bike not be used as intended. This par-ticularly applies for non-observance of the safety informa-tion and damage resulting for example from:• offroad use,• overloading,• incorrect repairs or• use in competitions,6.6 BMXThese bikes are designed for BMX routes and/or BMX prac-tice facilities.In some EU countries, they are not approved for use inroad traffic, e.g. by the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations(StVZO) in Germany, and in this case must not be used forthis purpose (see ➠ Chapter 5 "Legal provisions").Alwayswear a helmet and protective clothing, such as elbow andknee pads.The brakes normally installed on BMX bikes produce aless effective braking action. You should therefore bear inmind that this increases the braking distance, especiallyin wet conditions.
