Manual-11Digital Hybrid ControlsPeripheral Status and Dial DialogsDigital HybridThe DH 1 Digital Hybrid is an optional module, includedin the ECM 64AD. This internal module allows audioconferencing over a standard POTS 2-wire phone line. A 32millisecond Line Echo Canceller is utilized to remove lineecho caused by the four-wire to two-wire conversion. In astandard telephone the echo caused by this conversion isactually beneficial to the user as side-tone. With a conferencesystem line echo can cause all types of problems includingfeedback and echo canceller problems. When the Digital Hybrid is in an Off Hook state, the ECM64 is in a conference call using the telephone line. During OffHook, the RJ 11 connector labeled PHONE is disconnectedfrom the telephone line that is connected to the LINE connec-tor. The term ‘Off Hook’ represents the handset being re-moved from the hook switch. For best performance, always connect the RJ 11 connectorlabeled LINE directly to a POTS-type line by itself. Do notconnect other equipment such as phones and modems inparallel or in front of the ECM 64. Only connect otherequipment to the RJ 11 connector labeled PHONE.Features include:• Auto-Answer and Ring Detect• Auto Disconnect• Off Hook status• DTMF Dialing with six programmable speed numbers• DTMF Decoding (See Opstat page Manual-19)You can check the status of the digital hybrid in Device >Peripheral Status. If operating properly the Digital Hybrid’sRev level is displayed. Otherwise, Peripheral Status displaysNot Installed. When the DH 1 is installed, the Limiter is always enabled.no matter how the Limiter’s checkbox is set. The DH 1 alwayslimits the phone line to –10 dBm. Setting the Hybrid’s OutputTrim above –10 dB causes any audio levels above –10 dBm tobecome compressed. Note that setting the Output Trim to –4dB (adding 6 dB of compression) increases the level of softertalkers. The Auto Disconnect checkbox tells the ECM 64 tomonitor the phone line for loss of DC voltage and the lack ofreceived audio within three minutes. If any of these twoactions occur, the ECM 64 instructs the Digital Hybrid to goOn Hook. Always use Auto Disconnect when setting theDigital Hybrid in Auto Answer. You may want to disable AutoDisconnect once you have placed a call. There is always thepossibility that the ECM 64 may disconnect the call when youare not expecting it.For Rev 1.2 or greater there are added special functionDTMF dialing operators:Operator!1 Performs a 100 ms Flash Hook!2 Performs a 500 ms Flash Hook!3 Places the caller on Hold!4 Removes the caller from Hold
