It is importantthat you read this section before you start, particularly if youhave not used a ceramic cooker before.nn This appliance is designed for domestic cookingonly. Using it for any other purpose could invalidateany warranty or liability claim. In particular, theoven should NOT be used for heating the kitchen –besides invalidating claims this wastes fuel and mayoverheat the control knobs.Installation and MaintenanceIn the UK the electrical installation should be in accordancewith BS 7671. Otherwise, all installations must be inaccordance with the relevant instructions in this booklet, withthe relevant national and local regulations, and with the localelectricity supply companies’ requirements.Set the clock to ensure that the ovens are functional – see therelevant section in this manual.It is recommended that this appliance is serviced annually.Only a qualified service engineer should service the cooker,and only approved spare parts should be used.Always allow the cooker to cool and then switch it off at themains before cleaning or carrying out any maintenance work,unless specified otherwise in this guide.Peculiar smellsWhen you first use your cooker it may give off a slight odour.This should stop after a little use.Before using for the first time, make sure that all packingmaterials have been removed and then, to dispelmanufacturing odours, turn the ovens to 200°C and run for anhour.Before using the grill for the first time you should also turn onthe grill and run for 30 minutes with the grill pan in position,pushed fully back, and the grill door open.Make sure the room is well ventilated to the outside air(see ‘Ventilation’ below). People with respiratory or allergyproblems should vacate the area for this brief period.VentilationThe use of a cooking appliance results in the productionof heat and moisture in the room in which it is installed.Therefore, ensure that the kitchen is well ventilated: keepnatural ventilation holes open or install a powered cookerhood that vents outside. If you have several hotplates on, oruse the cooker for a long time, open a window or turn on anextractor fan.Personal Safetynn DO NOT modify this appliance.nn This appliance is not intended for use by persons(including children) with reduced physical, sensoryor mental capabilities, or lack of experience andknowledge, unless they have been given supervisionor instruction concerning use of the appliance by aperson responsible for their safety.nn Children or infirm persons should be supervised toensure that they do not play with the appliance.nn DO NOT use a steam cleaner to clean the cooker.nn Accessible parts will become hot during use and willretain heat even after you have stopped cooking.Keep babies and children away from the cooker andnever wear loose-fitting or hanging clothes whilethe appliance is in use.Always be certain that the controls are in the OFF positionwhen the oven is not in use, and before attempting to cleanthe cooker.nn Take care when touching the marked cooking areasof the hob.nn When the oven is on, DO NOT leave the oven dooropen for longer than necessary, otherwise thecontrol knobs may become very hot.nn When using the grill, make sure that the grill panis in position and pushed fully in, otherwise thecontrol knobs may become very hot.Always keep combustible materials, e.g. curtains, andflammable liquids a safe distance away from your cooker.nn DO NOT spray aerosols in the vicinity of the cookerwhile it is on.Use dry oven gloves when applicable – using damp glovesmight result in steam burns when you touch a hot surface.Do not use a towel or other bulky cloth in place of a glove – itmight catch fire if brought into contact with a hot surface.nn NEVER operate the cooker with wet hands.nn DO NOT use aluminium foil to cover shelves, liningsor the oven roof.nn NEVER heat unopened food containers. Pressurebuild up may make the containers burst and causeinjury.nn DO NOT use unstable saucepans. Always ensure thatyou position the handles away from the edge of thehotplate.nn Make sure to use adequately sized pans with flatbottoms that are large enough to cover the surfaceof the hotplate heating area.
