18Hotplate ignition or hotplate burners faultyIs the power on? Is the clock illuminated?If not, there maybe something wrong with the powersupply.Are the sparker (ignition electrode) or burner slotsblocked by debris?Are the burner trim and caps correctly located? See thesection on ‘Cleaning’.Remember that each cooktop burner has a special flamesupervision device (FSD) that stops the flow of gas ifthe flame goes out. When lighting a cooktop burner thesafety device has to be overridden by holding in thecontrol knob so that the gas can flow. This allows theflame sensor to heat up and operate the safety device.Keep holding the knob pressed in to let the gas throughto the burner for a few seconds. The igniter should sparkand light the gas.If, when you let go of the control knob, the burner goesout, the safety device has not held in. Turn the control tothe off position and wait one minute, then try again thistime holding in the control knob for slightly longer.Hotplate burners will not lightMake sure that the burner parts have been replacedcorrectly after wiping or removing for cleaning.Check that there is not a problem with your gassupply. You can do this by making sure that other gasappliances you may have are working.Do the burners spark when you push the button?If not, verify that the power is on by checking that theclock is illuminated.Steam is coming from the ovenWhen cooking foods with high water content (e.g. ovenfries) there may be some steam visible at the rear grille.Take care when opening the oven door, as there maybe a momentary puff of steam when the oven dooris opened. Stand well back and allow any steam todisperse.A crack has appeared in the ceramic warming zonesurfaceDisconnect the cooker immediately from the powersupply and arrange for its repair. Do not use the cookeruntil after the repair.My ceramic warming zone is scratchedAlways use the cleaning methods recommended in thisguide, and make sure that the pan bottoms are smoothand clean.Marks from mineral deposits from water or food can beremoved with a cleaning cream. However, tiny scratchesare not removable but will become less visible in time asa result of cleaning.Metal markings on the ceramic warming zone surfaceDo not slide aluminium or copper pans across theceramic surface. Can Iavoid this?Yes, this is caused by heat rising from the oven or thegrill, and heating them up. Do not leave the oven dooropen.Make sure that the grill pan is pushed right back to the‘back stop’ when grilling.Always grill with the grill compartment door open.If there is an installation problem and I don’t get myoriginal installer to come back to fix it who pays?You do. Service organizations will charge for their callouts if they are correcting work carried out by youroriginal installer. It is in your interest to track down youroriginal installer.Power failureIn the event of a failure in the electrical supply,remember to reset the clock to make sure that thetimed oven continues to operate.Food is cooking too slowly, too quickly, or burningCooking times may differ from your previous oven.Check that you are using the recommendedtemperatures and shelf positions – see the ovencooking guide.
